Our Course Leaders

Our course leaders, Amber Barry and Rebecca Galla-Jones, are two of the most experienced yoga instructors in the Southeast. Together they have over 35 years of yoga experience, and over 3000 teaching hours since 2001. Our senior teachers lead the majority of the course offerings, and make themselves available for additional guidance as needed.

Amber Barry was given a prescription for yoga while recovering from a near-fatal car crash in 1998, and soon discovered that it was a powerful, fun and rewarding way to rehabilitate her body. Yoga not only helped her reclaim her strength and flexibility, but it also helped her manage chronic migraines, insomnia, depression, anxiety, drug dependency, and food addiction. She used yoga and an Ayurvedic diet to wean herself off of medication, manage her moods, sleep better, and has lived pain-free for almost two decades.

Amber is certified at the RYT 500 level. She specializes in mindfulness, meditation, breath control, nutritional healing, pain management, and Ayurveda. She has studied and taught many yoga traditions, including Ashtanga, Anusara, Iyengar, and Hatha Yoga. In addition to teaching meditation for 18 years, she also worked as a health coach and motivational speaker for over a decade. Her recent speaking engagements include Knoll, Inc., Young Presidents' Organization (YPO), Whole Foods, Southeast Yoga Conference, and Little Pink Book. She is married with three children, holds a Marketing and Management degree from University of Virginia, and is a former marketing executive.

Rebecca Galla-Jones discovered yoga during a difficult transition period in her life. After living in France for six years, she struggled upon her return to the States, and yoga helped ease her transition. She quickly became a devoted yoga practitioner, exploring a variety of traditions, including Vinyasa Flow and Ashtanga. In 2004, Rebecca completed her Yoga Teacher Training and taught her first yoga class, and has been teaching ever since.

Rebecca is an expert in anatomy and physiology, breath control, bandha engagement, energy management, chanting, Sanskrit, yoga for children, practice modification for medical needs, and yoga history. She is married with two children, and feels blessed to be a part Atlanta’s wonderful yoga teaching community. Rebecca believes that everyone should feel proud of their practice, regardless of their level or physical limitations.

With their combined experience, Rebecca and Amber bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to our Atlanta Yoga Teacher training. They both have lived and breathed yoga for many years, and have raised their children in the yogic traditions. Their commitment to the practice, and to building community, make our training program unlike any other.

Course Mentors

Our course mentors, Gabrielle Byndloss, Shannon Demko, Anna McDevitt, and Ariel Kahn, are highly respected members of the Westside Yoga teaching team. They will meet with you during the course to explore mindfulness and movement techniques that will enrich your practice, and deepen your understanding of the power of yoga to transform lives.

What To Expect in our Atlanta Yoga Teacher Training

Taught in a small-group setting, our 200 Hour RYT Atlanta Yoga Teacher Training is open to practitioners of all experience levels and backgrounds. It is the most amazing journey--opening doors to new aspects of the practice that are more beautiful than your ever imagined!

Community is essential to this journey, so we create a safe space for our trainees to be authentic, and get to know their peers. Each student has a study partner for the course, and we also work in small groups to gain valuable experience in teaching asana, breath control, meditation and more. You will make lifelong friends, and receive the support you need to feel successful in your journey to becoming a yoga teacher.

We are committed to making sure our graduates are ready to lead, so students have live opportunities to teach throughout the program--the best way to gain valuable experience that prepares them for graduation and beyond. Teaching practice begins the first weekend that we meet, to maximize the opportunity to grow during training.

The textbooks we read in the course support our studies in yoga philosophy, anatomy, and the subtle body. Homework and recommended further study are provided at every meeting. Students work together with partners throughout the course to maximize the opportunity for growth in the practice, and make yoga a way of life.

In addition to meeting hours, trainees are also required to take 2 classes per week during the course (included in tuition).

I also feel comfortable knowing that the teachers at Westside Yoga will make themselves available to me if I have any questions going forward." ~Mallory

"The 200 Hour RYT program at Westside Yoga in Atlanta was life changing! I learned so much about yoga over the four month program, not just the physical poses and alignment, but the fascinating topics of the subtle body and yoga sutras. It gave me the foundation to become stronger in my physical practice, and to explore the other aspects of yoga that really make it a lifestyle. All of the educators were incredibly caring and supportive. Westside Yoga lives up to the yogic values in every way." ~Meg

"My teacher training experience was very informative and a wonderful overall experience. I not only was able to improve my own practice but was able to feel confident and prepared to share yoga with others (both the actual physical practice as well as a lot of the lifestyle behind it). I met some amazing people and the teachers were absolutely great." ~Krista

"Participating in Yoga Teaching Training at Westside Yoga is one of the best decisions I've ever made. The curriculum was well thought out, organized, and so much more in depth than I could've imagined. I learned more than I ever could have expected about myself, the other trainees and teachers (who became family), and the world. I left feeling equipped and confident to go out and teach yoga on and off the mat. I wouldn't trade my experience at Westside Yoga for anything!" ~Jessica

"I highly recommend Westside Yoga...the program is rigorous and prepares you to teach, if that’s what you want to do after graduation. Regardless of whether you want to teach, this will give your life some new perspective, help you shed some layers to further your relationship with yourself, and take your yoga practice to a much deeper level. I also made a ton of awesome new friends that I love dearly." ~Brittany

"Amber and the staff at Westside were quite welcoming of all of our needs and concerns as trainees. I learned so much over the 200 hour program and feel it was a great base for my journey as a yoga teacher. Forever Grateful."
